How we work
Every page starts from one question people are arguing about and answers it with public data: government statistics, court and agency records, peer-reviewed studies, election filings and prediction markets.
Rules every page follows
- Every number has a named source, linked on the page.
- Method and limits are stated, including what the data cannot tell you.
- Claims are labelled by strength: an official finding, a court case, a reported allegation and a criticism are different things, and pages say which is which.
- The same rule applies to both sides. Where a page makes a judgment, the rule is written down and applied identically.
- Pages show an "as of" date. Live pages are rebuilt from their sources by script, not edited by hand.
AI assistance
Pages are researched and built with AI assistance. That speeds up data collection and charting; it does not replace sourcing. Figures are checked against the source documents, and anything that could not be verified is marked or left out.
Independence
The Data Behind is independent and nonpartisan. It is not affiliated with any campaign, party, forecaster or news outlet, and nothing here is betting or investment advice.
